Street and Infrastructure Improvements Reach Every District
This scheme directly addresses conditions on local streets and drainage systems that residents use every day. Work covers internal roads and parks in neighbourhoods throughout the city, giving communities better access to maintained public areas without relying on distant central facilities.
Public Space Gains in Saddar, Malir and Korangi
The Karachi Neighborhood Improvement Project, funded by the World Bank and Government of Sindh, has improved 117.15 hectares of public space in Saddar, Malir and Korangi. This exceeds the original 75-hectare target and benefits 362,000 residents. The added space provides more room for daily activities such as walking and community gatherings in these specific districts.
Larger Residential Zones Add Local Amenities
Bahria Town Karachi, a 25 km by 10 km gated neighbourhood with 58 precincts, remains under construction since 2015 and includes high-rises, hospitals, schools, a zoo and recreational areas. Crescent Bay by EMAAR, a 108-acre upscale mixed-use oceanfront development in DHA Phase 8, is under construction with 4,000 residential apartments, high-rise towers, a shopping centre and a beachfront hotel. A $3.1 billion Chinese-led coastal redevelopment project plans to completely clear Machar Colony slum and transform Karachi’s coastline into a smart zone under the Karachi Coastal Development Zone.
Community Impact and Next Steps
These projects change how residents move through their neighbourhoods and access services close to home. Completion of the Union Council-Based Development Scheme by June 30, 2026, will mark the end of the current phase of street and park work, allowing communities to use the upgraded facilities on a daily basis.
